Dylan Wiliam

Dylan Wiliam is Emeritus Professor of Educational Assessment at University College London. He has extensive experience as a mathematics teacher and in mathematics teacher education. Wiliam has served as Dean and Head of the School of Education (and later assistant principal) at King’s College London; Senior Research Director at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ; and Deputy Director (Provost) of the Institute of Education, University of London. Since 2010, Wiliam has devoted most of his time to research and teaching. He is one of the world’s foremost education authorities. His recent work has focused on the use of assessment to support learning (sometimes called formative assessment). Wiliam, with his co-author Paul Black published a major review of the research evidence on formative assessment and has since worked with groups of teachers all over the world on developing formative assessment practices. Wiliam has helped to successfully implement classroom formative assessment in thousands of schools all over the world, including the United States, Singapore, Sweden, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
