Sean Monteith is the Director of Education for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Boards. He has been the supervisory educational officer in Ontario for 12 years and is responsible for education of students in several secondary and elementary schools, Student Success, Special Education, and Indigenous Education. Monteith is committed to reducing the disparity between communities and cultural groups in rural and urban schools. He is dedicated to working for equity of hope for school children in Ontario. With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, Monteith is focused on helping his staff assist students with their learning and providing families with the support and empathy they need to get through this incredibly challenging and unprecedented time. His emphasis is not on assessment, marks, reporting and evaluation, but rather on the value of building relationships with over 3000 of his employees, students, and families. Monteith says “As a self-identified Indigenous man, I feel very strongly about the responsibility we have in education to strive to providing equity of hope for all students”.
