Jeannie Oakes is Presidential Professor Emeritus in Educational Equity at UCLA, where she founded UCLA’s Institute for Democracy, Education, and Access; the University of California’s All Campus Consortium on Research for Diversity; and Center X, UCLA’s urban teacher preparation program.. In 2014, Jeannie moved to Santa Fe with her husband, Martin Lipton, after completing a 6-year term at the Ford Foundation as Director of Educational Opportunity and Scholarship programs worldwide. Currently, she is Senior Fellow in Residence at the Learning Policy Institute, a nonprofit organization that conducts and communicates independent, high-quality research to shape policies that improve learning for every child, pre-K through high school. Jeannie is immediate past President of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and a member of the National Academy of Education.
