Jonathan Jansen is a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and Senior Professor at the University of the Free State, South Africa. He is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association and of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He is President of the South African Institute of Race Relations and President of the South African Academy of Science. His book Knowledge in the Blood: Confronting Race and the Apartheid Past (Stanford, 2009) won the Nayef Al Rodhan Prize of the British Academy for the Social Science and Humanities, for its contribution to scholarly excellence and transcultural understanding. In 2013, he was awarded the Education Africa Lifetime Achiever Award in New York and the Spendlove Award from the University of California for his contributions to tolerance, democracy and human rights. He holds honorary degrees from the University of Edinburgh, the University of Vermont and Cleveland State University. His recent books include Leading for Change (2016), As by fire: the end of the South African university (2017), Interracial Intimacies (2017) and Song for Sarah and its translation, Lied vir Sarah (2017).
